Our Animal Ambassadors

Stella and Sol are a delightful mated pair of Ring-Neck doves. Sol coos and laughs, while Stella enjoys nestmaking. They enjoy the occasional free flight, and are very tolerant of handling, while a bit picky with their food. There are specific times of day that Sol will perform, and dove birdsong is, relative to other species, pleasantly subdued. 

-Bender came to us in July of 2025 in a very unique manner and has some pretty significant medical needs. This beautiful girl made her social media debut in the logan square community facebook page as the “loose Iguana of Humbolt park” After days of spoting and searching, some incredible neighbors found her in a crab apple tree. with the help of 5 incredible humans, Nina and our new friend Kelly were able climb up to secure her safely. After she was back here at the museum she was quarintined and had vet evaluations. She may look different due to her MBD and past bone fractures, but nothing slows this incredible girl down Benders overall personality is snuggly, curious, and playful. She is avalible for adoption to the right home.​

Rosie is a young, curious iguana looking for her forever home! She's still growing and will need a dedicated guardian who can provide the space, warmth, and love she deserves. Brazilian White-Knees are a favorite of the Tarantula-keeping world, as their striking appearance, enthusiastic feeding behavior, and ease of care, make them a fantastic beginner Tarantula. Unlike other more passive Tarantulas, White-Knees actively hunt and sometimes pounce on prey, putting on quite a show during feeding. Like most other Tarantulas, however, they require respect and minimal unnecessary handling, as they can expel itch-inducing hairs from their legs if they feel threatened,. Overall, Brazilian White-Knees are large, impressive tarantulas that don't demand ornate care. 

A performer and provocateur, Charlie loves to sing and dance. He might whistle at you! He loves company and a good head scratch.

Whisperin' Jimmy has a big vocabulary in a language only he knows. A feisty fellow, he loves to argue, but if you whisper to him, he'll whisper back! Sometimes he clucks like a chicken when eating.

These two are inseparable, characteristic of their species, . They are so very sweet!

We named this dragon Butch because he struts like a beefcake!  But rest assured, Butch is a gentle giant. He is quite comfortable with handling and loves to cuddle. He's also a very enthusiastic eater! "Beardies" are easy to care for; they just need an enclosure that's hot and dry, with rocks and sand or tile. 

Madagascar Roaches make ideal insect pets because of their large size, easy care, and hardy disposition. All they need is a dark, warm, moist environment. 

Simandoa Cave Roaches are extinct in the wild, so now they thrive in captivity. Hardy and adaptive, they can handle many conditions, but like roomy enclosures with lots of hiding spots. They're slow-breeding.
